Chapter 3. Conceptually difficult metaphors about transfer

In this chapter we will consider metaphors about transfer in which the spatial is figurative-schematic component is absent or is not key. For example, transfer can be comprehended as actor's game. Our judgement of game on a scene, of course, includes is figurative-schematic components (movement on a scene), but it is much more difficult than images-schemes as includes problems of the actor, methods of its game, our impression of game, and also understanding of game as achievement of similarity to the character. In such metaphors the is figurative-schematic component in most cases is not key, i.e. Transfer problems are comprehended as a problem of the actor, transfer methods - as methods of actor's game, impression of the reader - as impression of the spectator, but transfer usually is not comprehended in terms of spatial characteristics of actor's game. Therefore we will name such metaphors conceptually difficult, unlike spatial is figurative-schematic metaphors in which dokontseptualnye is figurative-schematic components have a principal value and are projected on area-purpose.

On the other hand, division of metaphors about transfer on is figurative-schematic and conceptually difficult is conditional enough, as metaphors can be based on images-schemes and at the same time include neobrazno-schematic kotseptualno difficult components. For example, comparison of transfer with wine transfusion is based on images-schemes from - to, the caused movement, inside - outside and at the same time is connected with judgement of transfer as smell and taste changes. As smell and taste change in this case is a consequence of spatial process of transfusion, we considered this metaphor in the previous chapter.

Besides, sometimes conceptually difficult metaphors form compound complexes with is figurative-schematic metaphors: their domain-source itself is metaphoric, being a source of an is figurative-schematic metaphor. For example, work of the translator can be compared to transformation of the actor. In this case actor's game is comprehended by means of the is figurative-schematic metaphor of transformation based on kontseptualizatsii of a body as a receptacle of soul, and transfer, in turn, is comprehended as such way of actor's game. We will consider such compound metaphors in this chapter as they are special cases of conceptually difficult metaphors (for example, transfer is an actor's game) and are used rather seldom.

We have allocated three basic groups of conceptually difficult metaphors about transfer: 1) metaphors of natural and supernatural processes of change, preservation and copying, 2) metaphors of interpersonal and social processes, 3) metaphors of arts, crafts and technologies. We will notice, that arts, crafts and technologies often include processes of change, preservation and copying (for example, picture copying), but these processes are not natural, i.e. Natural (as for example, reproduction of genes) as they are intentionally carried out by the person.
