2.2 Scheme a cycle

Transfer includes not only linearly-consecutive stages, but also cyclic actions which can be comprehended by means of the metaphors based on the scheme a cycle. As M.Johnson confirms, for cycles following signs are characteristic: an initial condition, continuation and returning in a starting position with the subsequent repetition of a cycle [Johnson 1987: 119].

For example, cycles are such phenomena, as breath, palpitation, blood circulation, seasons, day and night [Ibid.]. The cycles connected with movement, except the scheme a cycle, can include schemes from - to, independent

THE MOVEMENT, THE CAUSED MOVEMENT.

Metaphors based on the scheme a cycle, help to comprehend alternation of conscious and subconscious processes in activity of the translator. As specifies D.Robinson (1997), «translators should be able to scurry about, as a shuttle, back and forth between fast subconscious transfer and the slow, painful critical analysis» («translators need to be able to shuttle back and forth between rapid subliminal translating and slow, painstaking critical analysis») [Robinson 2003: 2]. Robinson explains, that it borrowed the metaphor from weaver's business. The shuttle (shuttle) is the detail of a weaving loom constantly moving back and forth [Ibid.: 85].

The scheme a cycle can be used for judgement of development of translational experience. Robinson represents such development in the form of movement of a wheel of the car, thus the car corresponds to transfer, and the driver - to the translator [Ibid.: 92]. Movement of a wheel of "experience" corresponds to cyclic change of following stages: 1) instinctive readiness, propensity to transfer or a habit, 2) actually the experience of transfer including consecutive stages abduktsii (an intuitive guess), an induction (classification of the same problems in groups) and deductions (formation of the theory of transfer on the basis of an induction); 3) transfer at subconsciousness level. Metaphor Robinsona allows kontseptualizirovat successful change of all stages (smooth movement of the car at which the translator only occasionally feels movement of wheels), and also infringements of a cycle of experience at a number of conditions: bad memory of the translator, inadequate dictionaries, "untranslatable" lexicon (a stop and movement back: From subconscious transfer to deduction, an induction and abduktsii) [Ibid.: 91]. Thus, the metaphor of movement of a wheel specifies and expands a metaphor of MOVEMENT of the WEAVER'S SHUTTLE.

Let's notice, that the metaphor of cyclic circular movement can be used for judgement of a part of translation process, namely - original interpretations. As mark V.V. Sdobnikov and O.V.Petrov, «to understanding the interpreter comes gradually, through consecutive acquaintance with separate parts of the text. Thus it has a certain expectation of that sense by which all text is characterised. And this expectation, no less than rezultirujushchee comprehension of sense of the text, influence understanding and separate parts of the text. This understanding can be modified in the course of advancement to more and more full comprehension of sense of the text as whole. Arises some kind of a circle which can be called germenevticheskim circle of a part and whole» [Sdobnikov 2006: 182 - 183]. Sdobnikov and Petrov refer on G adamera which asserted, that «understanding movement constantly passes from whole to a part and from a part to the whole. And the problem always consists in that, building concentric circles, to expand unity of sense which we understand »[tsit. On: Sdobnikov 2006: 183]. In last metaphor the scheme the cycle is combined with the scheme expansion (section 2.12 see) that allows to transfer successfully idea of developing understanding in the course of interpretation.

Thus, the metaphors based on the scheme a cycle, promote judgement of such cyclic processes, as alternation of conscious and subconscious work of the translator, development of experience of the translator in process of cyclic passage of such stages, as an instinct or a habit, abduktsija, an induction, deduction and subconscious transfer, and also - development of understanding of the author's text as a result of cyclic perception of parts and whole.
