SITUATION 6: You rent out rooms in your apartment to two people. The washing machine is broken. It is Saturday and the repair person is to come this morning. However, you will not be at home as you have to meet your son at the airport.

You want one of your leaseholders to stay at home this morning. (You hand over rooms in the apartment to two tenants. At you it is broken
Washing machine. Today Saturday, and the repairman will come this morning. However you will not be houses as you need to meet the son at the airport. You want, that someone from tenants remained at home for this time).

Pеспонденты used various strategy in the basic certificate of the request. So, for example, in group Ak there is a strategy of the statement of the fact - It would be appreciated (5 %). In this case the passive design instead of active - I would appreciate is used. The mechanism obezlichivanija the sender and the addressee concerns strategy of negative politeness.

In group PII there is a strategy of expression of desire - I would like you to stay at home/I really need one of you to stay at home (10 %). In the given group there is also a strategy of the statement of the fact - One of you has to stay at home/One of you should be at home/One of you should stay at home (25 %). These phrases are more similar to the soft order. One of the given speech certificates even is accompanied by threat - Otherwise you ' ll have to deal with your stuff on your own.Во phrases I would be very thankful if you could stay/You'll make me a great service if you could stayадресант underlines the debt to the addressee in case of the rendered help. It is display of negative politeness.

Group PI used strategy of expression of desire with use performativnogo a verb - I'd like to ask you to stay at home today (5 %) and I want you stay at home this morning (5 %). Ways of expression of the given strategy concern negative politeness. Pеспонденты used also the direct request - Stay at home and meet the repair person/Remain at home (10 %).

As to preparatory strategy answers of respondents from Ak are more various, than answers of Russian-speaking respondents (tab. 26 see). We can observe again absence in groups PI and PII the indirect
Interrogative design Would you mind by which in Ak 25 % are taken away. If in group R ІІ besides verbs can/could still there is a design I was wondering if in group R_ except the above-stated modal verbs of such designs is not present.

It is necessary to notice, that control group not so it is frequent as Russian respondents results the bases for the request. In groups R ІІ and РІ participants of the test in detail explain, why they cannot prisutstvovavat this morning houses (tab. 28 see). In explanations to the request of four respondents from group R_ have used a word masterдля designations of "repairman", having used a tracing-paper from Russian.

Participants of all groups have resorted to various strategy of the auxiliary certificate. In group Ak there is a strategy of a preliminary designation of the request - Could you do me a favor/The repair man is supposed to come this morning (10 %). In group R ІІ we also can observe strategy of a preliminary designation of the request - Are you busy today/Could you do me a favour (10 %), gratitude strategy - I'll be really grateful (5 %), strategy of reduction of spent efforts - It will not take long/It will not take me much time (10 %). In group R_ there is a strategy of a preliminary designation of the request - Can you help me/Could you help me (15 %), and also strategy of elimination of possible objections - I would do it myself but (5 %).

It is interesting, that besides application of strategy of reduction of spent efforts by group R ІІ, the same group used also strategy priglushenija values - for a little bit/for an hour (10 %). The Same strategy
Used group PI - for a short time (5 %) and control group - for a bit (5 %). Thus respondents underline the aspiration to be optimistical and to minimise the possible damage caused to the addressee. Therefore similar designs concern strategy of positive politeness. Following Maxim Takta according to the Politeness Principle is here too traced.
